Clomipramine?

My ds has ASD (HF). Diagnosed aged 4. He also now has additional OCD. He's 11 and the OCD came into our lives and turned our world upside own 18 months ago.

He's tried Sertraline, Risperidone and Prozac.

I've asked for a second opinion from cahms psychiatrist because frankly I thought the worst thing was having to give my son these drugs. In actual fact, the worst thing is that, having given them, they don't work. The dr has said, ALL clinicians in this field would try certain meds first so, we ought to try them before 2nd opinion.

Anyone had/have a child on Clomipramine?

Ds has CBT but is fi ding it hard to access.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Hi Eliza22. Sorry I can't answer your specific question, but just wanrted to make contact. My DS also developed OCD at 8-9. At that time he didn't have a diagnosis of AS but does now. He has been on sertaline and fluoxetine which have helped a little. He also finds CBT difficult but has made some progress. I do think the skill and interest of the psychologist makes a big difference to how sucessful it is. However I also feel that even the best just don't get how difficult it is for someone with As to access their own thoughts and feelings, no matter how generally intelligent they are. I can understand your concerns about taking clomipramine. Hope you get some answers.

nohaudin thanks for the post. Seems I'm a minority of one,on the clomipramine front. I expected it, TBH. I've only heard of it many years ago when elderly care wards used it, a lot. I'm an ex-nurse.

His CBT lady is great but as you say, it's very very difficult for ASD folk to "get" feelings and emotions.

Sad

Hi I did and still do x

I developed ocd severley when I was 13 and very nearly got sectioned as I was a risk to my self and family. I had regular pyschiactric consultations but this didnt seem to work. I was put on clomprimine and with the regular psychiactric help it changed my thought processes. I was on it about 3 months i think before it started to work. I came off it when I was 15 and ocd subsided, still there now and again but not so that it ruled my life which it had previously.

When my dd was 2 I suffered a nervous breakdown from undiagnosed post natal depression and the irrational part of my brain went into overdrive again. I am therefore back on clomaprimine and have been for the last 5 years but now only take 1 every other day.

If I can be of any help let me know eithe with the clomprimne or the ocd

Hi Eliza 22. I know this is a really old post but I was wondering how your son is doing? My son has been diagnosed with PANDAS; I was wondering if you had come across this and considered it as a possibility for your son too. I hope all is well for you.
