Have a ds13 high IQ - social skills of a brick - has anyone tried ABA for social skills in HFA? or do you know of any links for any research or info. Thanks

Me too please. Although we are really happy with our consultant, precisely for the reasons mentioned ^ ie she specialises in HFA/older kids, would still love to learn more without DS being there IYSWIM.

Tillyvontrap · 28/11/2011 00:51

I'm unfortunately not in the UK Moondog -will advice be available on a website? Or even a private webchat or something-dont mind paying for it! I am so desperate for information on this- I really thought ABA would not be suitable for my very high functioning ds with AS-There's just nothing available here for him-in Ireland- in limbo really.

bochead · 28/11/2011 19:27

Another name for moondog's list please : )

someoneoutthere · 29/11/2011 16:48

Am also not in UK but if it was on during summer holiday months I too could make it as will probably be popping to Uk anyway to see in-laws.Would really love advice on this for my AS son 12 yrs with HFA. Otherwise happy to pay for a webchat or such also. Thanks Moondog.

moondog · 01/12/2011 16:19

Seeing there are more names on the list. Great!
Tell me, where is a good central place to plan something?

blueShark · 01/12/2011 16:34

London? Grin

raspberryroop · 01/12/2011 16:35

Birmingham ? Much cheaper than London also NAS have some office space thier they may be willing to hire cheaply?

OP posts:
moondog · 01/12/2011 16:46

Do they?
Hmm.
I'm not sure I want to affiliate myself with anyone though. This is IPP.
Independent Parent Power (of the sort I had to find myself when I realsied how useless and utterly ineffectual 'input' was for my child.)

I thought Brum.

tocha · 01/12/2011 17:27

add me to the list as well (Total Chaos), please.

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 01/12/2011 18:00

I'll come if I'm neither giving birth or in a tribunal!

coff33pot · 01/12/2011 18:31

London I could possibly make as I got to allow time/travel (would have to catch a night train to get their for 9am I guess as I think london is 6 ish hours away)

Birmingham is way to far for me as I would have to get back same day as once DS figures I am gone he wont tolerate me not being there the next morning he wakes up Grin

But no problem as can understand the cheaper the better for everyone :) Maybe there is a possibility you could set up a video recorder and I would gladly pay for a dvd of the day :)

I understand Moondog - Depends on how many people but lots of hotels have small function rooms pretty cheap and Brum is pretty central and easy access off the motorway. DVD sound s great Idea - even if someone attends a DVD is great ''revision'' material as its impossible to retain everything.

OP posts:
Trixiebix · 01/12/2011 23:03

OH please count me in but not in UK either-DVD sounds like super idea. Would desperately love to hear your ideas etc. Have a ds 11 with HFA/AS and no real support !

sheepgomeep · 02/12/2011 17:16

count me in too, dvd would sound great. Have ds12 whos starting down the dx route, sounds like this could help. Thanks.

could get to brum though but have to find childcare first

a888 · 16/12/2011 14:11

Please add me as well moondog

PleasantSpice · 16/12/2011 17:09

Add me to the list too please Moondog! I have a colleague who is a BCBA and only specialises in HFA, she is doing a workshop for me, some tutors and some families in March 2012. It is a fascinating area!
We have often used Premier Inn Cardiff North for conferences and events as the delegate rate is very good, the conference manager is excellent and very good road, rail and air links! If you want any more information, just let me know. Also was going to get in touch with you Moondog about Seattle in May, are you going? I've booked conference, going to book flight and hotel this weekend. Went down to ABAI in Granada a few weeks ago and had a good time.

moondog · 16/12/2011 19:09

Hi PS. Smile
Who is she?
It would be interesting to know what she does?

Yes, I am going to Seattle so we shall meet there!
What were the Granada highlights?

PleasantSpice · 16/12/2011 19:25

Her name is Charlotta Holenstein, I have a Skype meeting with her in the morning, shall I ask if I can forward you her email? Where you flying from for Seattle? I'm looking at BA flights from Heathrow. Where you staying? Granada highlights were some interesting papers on using mini-me devices to provide scripts. I found it interesting as I could see their potential for some other programs too. Lots on RFT, Miguel on VB, Partington on the normative data for ABLLS-R was also good.

WilsonFrickett · 16/12/2011 20:14

Oh she is working with us at the mo. I love her. I could actually eat her on a piece (that is Scottish for I love her a lot). Must ask about that workshop...

PleasantSpice · 16/12/2011 20:36

She's great with high functioning! I asked her if she'd do a workshop so as some of the consultants and therapists we have in Wales could learn more techniques for HFA. We did our masters together in Cardiff.

moondog · 16/12/2011 20:48

Sounds interesting.
I love Partington, he's a very inspirational man.
I'll be gonig from Manchester and wil lstay in one of the hotesl commandeered by ABAI.
Accommodation links on ABAI website.

Yes, it would be great to make contact with her, so by all means pass on my email.

I am writing up some of my stuff for publication for an s/lt magazine at present. I'll send you a copy when it's published.

WilsonFrickett · 16/12/2011 21:13

moon just a thought, but you are so helpful with your info and sending and sharing stuff - have you thought about setting up a blog? I only ask because if you had one place to put everything I think it would actually save you time because you could just point people there. (sorry for hi-jack!)
