Hi I've found out that I can claim the mobility aspect of the dla form but not sure how to do it. The fact that my ds needs intense supervision when out and about is the cause. He's got good balance and coordination so thought he didn't qualify but apparently he does because of lack of awareness of danger or any traffic awareness.

Hi, you need to complete a DLA claim form, both care and mobility elements are assessed together, though either or both can be awarded.
The wording is very good now to cover issues other than physical reasons for needing assistance. My DS has ASD and gets the highest rate of both.
Good luck x

if you already get dla for care needs then you just need to contact them and tell them there has been a change in circumstances and you need reassessment.

if you aren't in receipt of the care element, you just need to get hold of a form and start wading through it. good luck with that.

no idea how old he is, but he needs to be over three, btw.

thanks both Hidinginthewoods and madwomanintheattic- my ds is 4.7.

so it's about what you write in the form then. there's a section for us to write a free text, will emphasize it there toom.

I recommend you download the Cerebra guide and use that to help you fill in the form. Its long but definitely worth it as it helps point out areas that your child need extra support in compared to their peers that you might not even have considered mentioning. My ds is 11 now and has As and ADHD. I did his last DLA form when he was 8 and although he has no mobility issues as such his need for much greater supervision than his peers means he qualifies for low rate mobility.

If you have care then for those parts of the form just write 'no change' and just fill in the mobility section
