not sure if I'm posting on the right thread here - apologies if not!

just looking for advice on how to get antibiotics into my 2-year old - he's an ex-prem who was on oxygen & has severe reflux.

I always manage to get his domperidone in via syringe (he loves it) & omeprazole mixed into fruit puree - but have tried all my usual tricks (mixing in milky bar pudds, yoghurt, ice-cream etc, bribery with chocolate buttons etc)

He's got a nasty ear infection which has spread to his throat, and his reflux has worsened due to this - it's a catch 22 situation as he wont' stop being sick until I can get the medication in.

All advice welcomed, thank you

i have to say i do resort to the old 'wrap them in a towel in a giant bear hug so they can't move their arms' and just drip it in but by bit with a syringe, into the side of their mouth so they can't get it back out so easily. and i do occasionally blow into their face at the same time to try and trigger a swallow Blush. it's horrible. but sometimes there's no other way.

you could ask thre pharmacist if there's another option - sometimes they will flavour or whatever, but i do usually just go for 'no choice, let's do it'. nicey nicey doesn't cut it when they are v poorly.

ask someone to help hold still if you aren't strong enough. when ds1 was on a nebuliser at 11 weeks, he would fight me, and i needed help. for an 11 week old baby! Shock

have you tried mixing it in just a teeny bit of orange juice (like a shot glass full)? that seems to be the only thing (other than force) that occasionally will work with DS2 as the strong flavour of the juice distracts him from the medicine taste a bit. By the time he realises there's medicine in it, it's too late, he's swallowed it. (might only work once though! Grin)

thanks for that - much appreciated! the pharmacy have already indoctrinated it with flavours, but I will try the OJ. might try a straw too so he doesn;'t taste it as much

I've managed to get about 2/3 of the prescribed dose into him by sneaking it in 1-2ml amounts over the day - any more & he just vomits it straight back up.

Another 8 days of antibiotics to go :-(
