Ds is really enjoying the opportunity to spend time at the local library near his SS. He likes the chance to research his interests and has enjoyed finding books to read.
The school has links with the library and because ds enjoys his time there, it's very quiet and not at all busy they have been investigating the possibility of ds doing work experience there as they feel the environment would suit him better than the farm, garden centre etc.
Today they spoke to the staff there and they would be happy to have Jack (with support initially) and asked ds whether he would like to work there. He said yes straight away and so the librarian started showing him the indexing system and of course he'd got it sussed easily so initially he won't have to cope with the general public and can be less exposed.
It's just lovely to see how well they can spot his strengths and can tailor stuff to suit him and they have the links to do this too. What's even better though is that ds is really trying to give things a go.
Only three weeks in and it feels like he's making huge strides already and it makes every minute of the fight to get him there worthwhile.I knew it was right but I would never have dared hope that ds would come so far so quickly he's even stopped obsessing about it not being academic enough partly I think because the maths and ICT are pitched more at his level but also because he's learning other things that keep him occupied.
Today his teacher reported that ds seemed genuinely happy to be there and he's talking and laughing more now both at home and at school and even in the taxi
