Probiotics

Am giving ds probiotics(Actimel) as I have read a little about the use of them for children with ASD. There are so many brands out there - does anyone know if one is supposed to be better than the other?

Thank you!

From the GAPS diet book:

  • A good probiotic should have as many different species of beneficial bacteria as possible.

  • A mixture of strains from different groups of probiotic bacteria is more beneficial than just one.

  • A good probiotic should have a concentrated amount of bacteria: at least 8 bllion of bacterial cells per gram.

And it recommends this one.

My DS is on this one because it tastes nice.

My DD is on this one because someone recommended it and this one because it is tiny enough for her to swallow.

Actimel has 10 billion bacterial cells - but only contains one strand.

Taking probiotics is a good idea, but I think you will have to combine it with dietary changes to see a real improvement.....

Thanks Indigo!

Ds only eats a handful of things and will go without if he doesn't get them. Can't face a dietary change at the mo as we are doing so many other things. Might try later though...

Both my girls are using yachcult which works very well for them.
