Hi all we have a paed app next week and I'm praying they give us something to help her sleep, I can't survive on 3 hrs a night anymore! Does anyone know if they can provide medication do young and if so was it melatonin? Many thanks

Hi, sleep deprivation is awful isn't it?
My ds was given melatonin when he was about 3.5, he still has it although I don't believe it has that much effect for him, he has also been px 3 different types of antihistamine for his eczema, all of which cause drowsiness, not for him though.

We resorted to putting a tv/dvd in his room and put that on when he wakes or won't go off.
Now having the same sleep problems with dd2 21 months but very much doubt anyone will medicate her any time soon. Good luck:)

I think DS was 3.4 when he went on Melatonin. I hope they can give you something.

We had a sleep counsellor too - her best suggestion was locking DS in his room.Hmm

I think it's highly unlikely you will be offered medication at that age..they are extremely reluctant to medicate much older children who are up all night:/ More likely more sleep training advice (or 'soundproof your house' type advice!)

Personally I never found melatonin that great anyway..got DS off to sleep but didn't keep him there.

Thanks. Not sure what else they could suggest actually as we tried cc, rapid return etc etc also we've been told not to let her cry S she gets very distressed and breath holds. Will post back and report on what he says on monday x

I asked our paed for something to help dd 4.6 sleep and was refused saying that she is too young, and they don't prescribe. He said to try alternative remedies from the Chemist. I have tried Bach Rescue Remedy night, which does help a bit.

Thats rubbish piglet, ds2 has had melatonin for over 18 months now, he is 5.5.
