Sleep issues cot or bed?

Hi all dd2 still a horrific sleeper (we got 4 hrs last nite!). We tried her in a toddler bed at psychs suggestion but she was even worse so put her back in cot. That was couple months ago and I'm thinking now evenings are much darker should we try the bed again or will it upset the applecart again?
I'm so tired and stressed- I can't say if she's 'ready' for a bed or not as I'm simply not sure!
Or should we wait til December paed app and see if he prescribes melatonin and try bed then?
She's 2.3

So long as she can't climb out of the cot and hurt herself, I can't see a problem with leaving her in it. What do you think will be better for her (and you) in a bed? (Not a flippant question, genuinely not sure Smile ) Will she understand she's got more freedom and be content in her room, or will she just get up all the time to find you? I suppose she'll have to make the transition at some point, but I'd be tempted to wait til after your paed appt. Feel free to ignore me, others may have better suggestions. My DS2 only really settled when he started sharing with DS1.

Despite all the frowns from the rest of our family, we did not put DD into her bed until she was nearly 3. We just did not think she was ready. When she finally did go into the big girls bed we did not have too many problems. We still have a gate accross the door tho, as she is not the best sleeper and often goes to bed but not straight to sleep. (also should mention she is speech delayed and potential ASD, so that was an added factor for us).
If you're not sure (and as you're posting here, I guess you're probably not!!), then do what feels right for you and DD. I would add though that waiting to see if you get melatonin then doing it, then you might not be able to tell if she was just ready for the bed or if its the melatonin iyswim.

Thanks guys for replies as her sleep is worse than ever at the mo we decided to try her in bed and see how she goes (last time I last count after putting her back in it for the 59th time!) Then at least I can see if it works before we see paed and will revert to cot if needs be.
I'm not sure what's right for us to be honest just some sleep would be nice :)

If the issue is not settling off to sleep I would wait a few weeks and see where she gets with the melatonin. Cot or bed doesnt seem to be the issue from what you say but the constant putting her back. You look to have tried the paeds suggestion without success.
