Montessori nursery

i have visited our local montessori nursery and seems great for DS, like the structure and the attitude/culture.

Hoping to go there for one morning or afternoon session a week, with a shadow, which they are fine with, when they have a spare slot. At the moment we are doing ABA/VB but I would like him to get used to a peer environment (DS is 2).

Any experience of them for toddlers with ASD? Any comments welcome.

Hi Mango,

Montessori has alot of structure which benefits children with ASD. From experience I would recommend Montessori and am glad your ds is getting an ABA shadow. Many nurseries/schools say they have experienced staff but in reality this is not comparible with an ABA shadow.

Hope he enjoys nursery x

Hi Mango - I started a thread about Montessori nursery a few weeks ago www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs/a1295080-Montessori-education-for-SLD-children - was needing a bit of reassurance about our decision to send DS. My DS is older and we didn't do the toddlers there, but he is faring very well at the nursery.

I think visiting an ordered, child centred enviroment with a familiar carer and interacting with calm NT peers once a week has to be a good thing.
Good luck with it.
