Detention again for DS2 (HFA)

Aaargh....I'm getting so frustrated with school - but it's probably me that's in the wrong!

It turns out that DS2 (7) had detention again this lunchtime for not learning all his spellings over half term. He had about a hundred medium frequency words. I went through the first 60 with him, he got them all right. He later struggled with his comprehension and we never got back to the final ones as I figured he'd probably get most of them right in the test.

Instead of being tested, the teacher asked if everyone had learnt them. The rest of the class said yes except for DS2 and another dyspraxic child, so they were given lunchtime detention (which is extended to tomorrow as well as DS2 couldn't find his spelling folder - which turned out to be on teacher's desk).

DS2 isn't too bothered about this as he is really struggling socially this term so is happy to sit in library.

It's just me that's getting very cross as he happily accepts his punishment saying that he deserves it because he's really really stupid and forgets things!!

Aaargh... How do I help him!

teacher sounds like an idiot - that is appalling

I'm glad you think so, this teacher is driving (has driven!) me mad.

Apparently the teacher can't make one rule for one child and a different one for the others, though it's always the same two always getting detention.

learning 100 medium frequency words over the holidays is a ridiculous exercise. Did she differentiate it?

'Apparently the teacher can't make one rule for one child and a different one for the others'

she needs to be directed to the equality act 2010 then...

The spelling were for the top set, but DS2 is a bit of a spelling genius (goes with his territory) so probably knows all the words anyway. He just didn't "learn" them over the holiday, and this is what he admitted to!

so he knew how to spell the words, but didn't actually 'learn them as he had been given homework that he already knew so didn't need to, so she gave him a detention. Absolutely bizarre!
How many of the children didn't learn them and said that they had! Quite a few I'd bet.
