had autism team in last week to do the CARS test for dd2 statementing. I was really surprised how crap it was Grin
they added it all up and dd2 came up in the sereve level of autism Hmm anyone who has met my dd will know thats not the case. They had to steal 0.5 of a point from somewhere to ensure she came in the moderate to high functioning level.

How do they do the CARS test lisad. When you mean steal a point.....they fiddled it????

These tests can be hit or miss - I think (though can't remember exactly) that CARS is one where you score lower points for being verbally echolalic than for being non verbal

Well it's all subjective I guess. They have areas of difficulties, and then they have to give them a point between 0-3. You can get half points too. And yes I guess they fiddled it. We all agreed on score but then changed at end! Hmm

I think that the test results can vary depending on the persons interpretation of how challenging things are IYSWIM.

When we did the DISCO for Dd3 we felt that she underscored in some areas because of strateies which we have already put in place and becasue of the hours and hours of reading/research I have done to try to make our lives easier.

Luckily the psychiatrist was sensible enough to realise this and so used her judgement at the end to give a Dx.

I do think they are hit and miss thoughHmm.

That should have been Strategies.
