Finally got diagnosis confirmed this morning as Aspergers Syndrome

It's bittersweet, though, isn't it? Pleased you have a DX, you know officially 'it's not your fault,' you can really work on things from a position of knowledge, it's not the end of the world, but it can still hurt. ((((hugs))))

thanks for comments, yes it is bittersweet ellen, but ive been googling aspergers for the last few years so i wasnt shocked, think we made the paed apt easy,lol, we were only in there 10 mins he knew that we were expecting him to say Aspergers. My son is now reading his All Cats have Aspergers book and saying hes definitely a cat now Ive heard a lot of people on here say that Aspergers diagnosis is not being used anymore, it sure is

I remember your posts from about a year ago - you've really been through some crap with the 'professionals.' I really admire how you've kept going to help your ds to get the help he needs despite that.

We have also been on a long road with Dd3, we were half expecting and AS dx but got an ASD dx.

I was happy when we got the Dx because I felt we needed to allow Dd to be who she is without other people having unrealistic expectations of her.

I hope you and your Ds get some support and Good luck for the future.

We have DS's [17] first assessment by the Autism team on the 31st of this month. His dr says its 99% certain, child team after 1 hour assessment said he was categorically not autistic when he was 8.

borderlass, when i took my son aged 4.5 to the speech and language clinic the lady said "hes definitely not got autism!! he is egocentric and will grow out of it"..........fast forward 2 years and he was assessed at the same place and the SALT was in no doubt he was high functioning autism/aspergers. Dont give up. The paed who told us yesterday asked us how the process had gone in diagnosing, i told him that parents shouldnt be disbelieved and that its a very stressful time trying to prove to professionals that your child does indeed have serious problems that should be taken seriously. He agreed that the process at present is not good and causes parents way too much stress

its really weird actually because ive been reading about aspergers etc for about 5 years and now we have the diagnosis i seem to be reading all the same stuff again! but now being able to identify it more with my son
