My DS is nearly 4 and his special ASD nursery is holding an Initial Planning Meeting following the issue of his statement. This is to set objectives for his learning and report following meeting will be sent to the LEA. Not sure what to do to ensure that he gets the right school next year - panel meet in March to decide. Any advice very welcome. I am just not sure he is making any progress with PECS and whether TEACCH and PECS are right approach for him and this is what Surrey ASD maintained schools use. I have good relationship so far with DS Case Officer at LEA and they have been very reasobable to date (with a huge amount of work from me to get this far) Advise re working out right school really appreciated

Try and set very clear objectives / targets - perhaps post the existing ones and let the experts on here improve them. If you want something else eg specialist placement / ABA then you need to show insufficient progress with PECS / TEACCH. The best way of doing that is to set very specific measureable targets - which if missed will then give you the evidence you need to ask for something else.

Thank you very much for advise. Current IEP targets are (deliberately) a little vague and achievable. Will have to get thinking about some more pertinent ones and demonsrate lack pf progress. Will look into independent EP also
