A group of parents have got to the last stage with DFe of opening a free school "Lighthouse' in Leeds. They are looking for children who potentially would be eligible to start next Sept 2012 and are holding meetings on 17 & 19 Oct:

"We are running two parent focus groups/coffee mornings over the next few
weeks to ensure that parents currently considering their high school
provision have a clear understanding of Lighthouse as a potential
provision and its admission process, but it is also an opportunity to meet other parents and discuss concerns or offer suggestions. This is your chance to inform vital elements of the school at this crucial set-up phase ? we
would welcome your input.

The groups are kindly being hosted by Pudsey Grangefield School and there
will be a chance to see the Lighthouse site (adjacent to PGS) and the
plans for its development.

PUDSEY GRANGEFIELD SCHOOL, MOUNT PLEASANT ROAD, PUDSEY, LEEDS LS28 7ND
?please park on Mount Pleasant Road

Parents of any age children with ASD are welcome to attend but if your
child would be eligible (age 11/12) for starting in September 2012 or 2013
please let us know when you RSVP as it is important that we identify potential new starters.

Monday 17th October 10.00 ? 12.00
Wednesday 19th October 10.00-12.00

RSVP: [email protected] by Wednesday 12th October"

Wow!

This will be, I think, only the second State-run ABA school in UK - after Treetops in Thurrock, Essex? Fab news. When something works, eventually parents vote with their feet and it goes mainstream, though ABA is so expensive to do by oneself that it is having a slower start. Great news, wish someone would do it in London!

I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on this, especially as I don't live too far from PGS. DD is about to turn 13 though

Its nothing to do with me but we are in driving distance if need be in 7 years time and use the provider who is helping.
It is great news though.
I think it has been 4 years in the planning and the free school format just came along at the right time.
So well done to the parents involved

Just heard on the grapevine this is going ahead. It was in the daily mail so it must be true.
