DLA mobility component - when to claim?

I get higher rate DLA care component for my daughter at the moment, she turns three at the beginning of March next year and I was wondering when I should start the ball rolling with my claim for the mobility component. Does anyone have any experience of how long it takes? Is it too early to do it now?

Can't the forms be downloaded from the internet? Genuinely don't know the answer to this but its worth a try. Can download IR forms etc.....

Chatee and vici there is information about the kidz up north exhibition on the site below. We were sent the leaflet home from dd's school, it looks good

You can claim the mobility component 6 months before the child turns 3. I put DDs forms in in January, she was awarded higher rate care and higher rate mobility from the June when she turned 3. It came into effect on her birthday.

you are so organised mieowSmile

do it now - my dd's higher rate award runs out when she turns 3 at the end of March, and we have been sent the renewal forms including the mobility bit. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone I'll get the forms as soon as possible! Will look into the kidz up north exhibition, thanks for letting me know chatee, I hadn't heard about it.

another question on this please..

Ds turned 3 last week and i've had the mobility forms through to fill in. What I'm worried about is the fact that they say they review the entire claim at this time.

DS was awarded mid rate care dla til 2006, i feel i was perhaps ' lucky' with this as i thought he was borderline for low/ mid rate. What I don't want to do is upset the applecart and risk losing some of it. I truly don't know if his cp is 'bad enough' to justify high rate mobility . Any experiences?

misdee · 04/11/2003 20:39

think about every little thing u do for him, the things u connsider normal, and what is different to what aother parents do. i always feel guilty about getting high rate dla care for my dd1 till my neighbours pointed out everything i do automatically that she just wouldnt think of doing for her kid.
as far as i know, if he gets middle rate now till 2006 then they shouldnt change this. is the mobility part a different form? the whole thing confuses me.

Davros · 04/11/2003 22:29

I worried just the same when I "jeopardised" our middle rate to go for higher + mobility but I decided to go for it. We got put up to higher rate care but no mobility so I asked them to "look again" and they agreed to that too. SO, it was worth it and I think its unlikely you'd put what you're already getting at risk but I know what you mean.

just to let you know that we actually got the higher rate mobility level, got notification today! Many thanks for all your words of wisdom.
