Is it ever OK for a school to video/photgraph your kid sobbing their heart out in a corner and NOT tell you the parent this has been done? (Up to 30 mins at a time - son too distressed to even realiise he was being filmed).

What possible motivation could anyone have for taking this action?

Found out today the above scenario happened on a regular basis at my son's last school and I'm not a happy bunny but not sure what if any recourse I have. Frankly I find it creepy.

Following on from this - is there any action I can take to prevent this happening again?

Bloody hell . I have no idea.

Demand a copy of it for starters (in case you need it as evidence - I mean wtf weren't they trying to comfort him?). Write to the next school saying you do not give permission or consent to any videoing.

Not very sure but I know that my ds's old school and the governors think it was legal to video ds (mind you, they did get some legal issues completely wrong).

Agree with Starlight that you should demand copies of those videos and ask what was the purpose of videoing your son? Also can you write to the school asking what they intend to do with their copies and withdraw permission for them to be shown to anyone or to be used in any way?

Am really shocked and upset for you.
