My son is 4 and half. His expressive speech is now improved but he stuggles to expree himself. The main problem is receptive understanding which is poor and disordered. Does anyone have experience of this? Is is a lifetime condition or will he grew out of it?

Hoe shows no signs of Autism.

Hi alexbear,

What support or intervention is he getting at the moment? Does he have any SALT?

Hi alexbear,
2 yrs ago DS had receptive and expressive problems. he had some salt (Therapy for 6 weeks on a weekly basis) I got some worksheets home and worked through them over the months. He was re assessed a 6 months later and pulled up from 2yrs behind to on average in both areas.
I have noticed a gap starting to show again, so going to contact them again to review DS.

I found reading and talking about books loads helped with both.
Also try breaking things down more when talking to son. Could be just slow at processing what is being said.
i also noticed tiredness made it alot more difficult for ds.
