Ds SENCO is THICK

just had a call from Ds child psychologist to say sorry that DS is having a hard time atm.

She said she had spoke to SENCO who is also his form teacher and that SENCO thinks ds is anxious and upset because "its that time of year- XMAS and he doesnt celebrate it" !!!!

Oh yeah?

What about the other 11 months in the year when he,s making himself sick and talking morbid thoughts then?

WHY WHY WHY will SENCO not accept DS has AS/ASD?

Psychologist said that tomorrow in DS appointment with psychiatrist at CAMHS to push for a confirmed diagnosis as school will not accept that he has problems until then.

I am absolutely seething, im going to go and see her this afternoon and see what she has to say,

so often it comes down to funding and if he is 'diagnosed' by school staff ( LEA ) then they have to support it and support your son

I really feel for you. I know my son is ASD. I really think he has something called semantic-pragmatic language disorder. SENCO thinks he has speech problem that he will grow out of with intensive language therapy and WILL NOT listen to me at all!!! He has had intensive speech therapy for a year and he is 5 years old and cannot use pronouns properly or answer questions. Thank god for my HV who has fought with me to get him referred for further evaluation.

It's annoying and scary because you would think that for someone to be a SENCO they would have to have a clue about what is going on with these kids!!!

No, it didnt bother me when i was a child either, in fact i thought it was all a fuss about nothing.

When DS was 3 i let him go to his dads for the day on xmas day and a big fuss was made of him, he hated it and screamed all day and to this day he says xmas is too much.

The school are just looking for excuses because they dont want ds to have any extra help or fund anything.

I doubt SENCO gives a monkey's about funding. She just doesn't get it and doesn't like being challenged and made to look inefficient and stoopid. She's in denial big time!

The SENCO sounds useless! How on earth did she get the job???
