So, we made an offer on a house last week which was accepted. It has a garden with an apple tree and though it needs work, it will be lovely, I think. Today I found out there is a place for DS at the local school. It only has 115 on the roll, is fully focused on SN, they're already talking about putting his audited hours up so they can recruit a classroom assistant, they have such a lovely, caring ethos, are a Forest school as well, and I am SO HAPPY that I can't stop crying...

Thanks all, yes indeedy zzzzz it's going to be appletastic round Wilson's! I have a whole sort of 'Little House on the Prairie' thing going on in my head, with apples and butter and allsorts, which will no doubt be nothing like the reality. But for today - let us have chutney!

DH asked DS what he would like in the garden (he's been after a trampoline for years, but DH has also been 'subtly' pushing a treehouse) and DS replied 'a swimming pool.'

That sounds lovely - hope it all goes through ok . Can I just ask, what is a Forest school?

Two teachers have been specially trained in using the woodland next to the school as an outdoor classroom, so the children learn how to make shelters and 'be' in the forest, as well as then using the forest setting to deliver lessons. (I say forest but for the new school it really is a patch of woodland ) Lots of problem-solving, risk management, team working but outside physically doing things.

I don't know a huge amount about it yet, and I don't know if it will suit DS but I like the sound of it...

Lived in the country when my eldest was small. Right in the middle of nowhere but apple trees and fruit trees and a lovely small school. Had a rayburn and baked lovely bread on it. We had sheep (not ours) but helped out feeding the lambs with DD and kind of adopted one. Was a bit odd coming home from work with the cat, dog AND sheep running up the path to greet you
