TMI wiping bottoms

HELP How do you get your child to wipe their own bottom?

ds is 7 and has AS with some motor skill problems. He is still not able to clean himself independently. His stools whilst not diarrohea they are always very soft. He will try but ends up with smears everywere. We have tried wet wipes and it is a bit better but still not clean.

He won't go to the toilet in school because of this.

You have my sympathy bedheadz, I don't know the answer though.

I know a few non-sn children who have the same problem. I had a friend who when I baby sat for her informed me her ds's didn't wipe their own bums (they were about 7 when they stopped this) I didn't have dc then so was a bit shocked!

My sympathy also...ds1 (8) still comes to me after every...erm...movement to ask me if he is clean. Sigh.

Hi all dd is 7 (ADHD) and only just learnt really - however she just about blocks the toilet every time! She uses reams and reams of toilet roll and then 2 wet wipes to finish off for good measure. She gets herself clean now after much learning however she has blocked the school toilet loads of times and at home we have to buy cheap value toilet roll so it disintegrates easily as quilted and velvet stuff is awful for blocking the loo!

When we were teaching her her dad told her "use as much toilet roll as you like" so she did and she still does but it works! So we have to live with it for now! However I will try the flour and tissue paper method good idea x
