Senior flyingboy has got a B yes a B for GCSE ART!!!!! This is the child who has the drawing skills of a 4 year old. We did put in lots of effort into his research and sketch book and he did chose 'everyday objects' which he used his old obsessions for - hoovers, toasters, washing machines. He took some really creative photos. And finally did his current obsession - hand driers.

You see it does have some advantages. But honestly, if anyone had told me 5 years ago that my son would get a good GCSE in art and another GCSE in Expressive Arts I would have laughed at them. I know it's not huge in the world of academia but it's lovely to have something to be really really proud of and be able to boast about a bit.

And it is huge in the academic world he has used an obssession and turned it round to his advantage and that is something else. He could go into design from here purely by his obsession alone. Posts like this help bring us hope.

My Aspie has just got Bs and Cs in his GCSEs, and whilst it isn't the fistful of A*s that many are waving around, I'm delighted and so is he.

Another ray of hope here, my dyspaxic DS has just got 2 c's 3 a's and 2 a*'s! He had previously sat English and got a D twice, they finally put the right measures in place for him and he got an A this time, so proud of him.

Mine is mainstream, AS aware teachers in class, some flexibility and accommodations and extra time in the exams.
He hasn't hit anyone for over a year, so I reckon his behaviour management, socialisation and self control are A*
He's off to college and A levels now.

Mine is in private special. He wouldn't have been allowed near Art in a mainstream! I think had he stayed in mainstream he would have done better academically - ie, taken GCSE for maths and English rather than Entry level but the pay off is the therapy and the fact he can now walk in a straight line!

how so flying? my dd is unable 2 access mainstream because of her low ability levels academically and her anxieties socially. Although she needs a high level of support, she's always had the opportunity to access mainstream, even now at her SS, they integrate as much as is possible with the adjacent comprehensive.
Do you mean that his curriculum time was used up doing other things?
I'm just being nosey/ and am interested to hear other peoples experience!x

Nothing wrong with the arts. Did you know that accountancy is an arts degree. I like to remind my DH of that when he comments on the slightly less academic arts degree that i have.

A big 'respect' for parents of the above who have obviously worked tooth and nail in supporting their DCs all the way to make sure they have the provision to be able to achieve.

Now that is bloody brilliant news! Well done all DCs and equally hard-working parents.
