Hi
DD1 is 10 and has dx of AS, DCD, SPD and OCD.
Her main issues have always been anxiety based and over the last few months it has become totally unmanageable -despite all of the strategies we have tried.
Her back story is looonnng! So, in a nutshell, we dropped CAMHS after they committed a massive betrayal of trust (for which they admitted full responsibility) and I have been doing various things with dd (CBT based/relaxation/ coping strategies etc).
When she is relaxed enough, she is very receptive to these 'therapies' and we have seen good results in the past. However, her levels of stress and anxiety are so high atm that nothing is working as she is just too agitated to take any of it in. It's affecting the whole family and I really do feel like I'm at the end of my tether. Most importantly, dd's quality of life is poor and she is utterly miserable.
A couple of years ago, a psych suggested trying something like Prozac, to reduce dd's anxiety to the point that she could learn coping strategies etc. At the time, we felt like we wanted to explore other avenues first, but now we realise that there is no point in dd continuing to suffer when there is a possibility that meds may help her.
So I would be really grateful to hear about anyone's experiences of meds with their dc and how the child responded.
Also, I want to avoid going to CAMHS if at all possible, so does anyone know if a GP can prescribe it?
Many thanks. I won't be around until this evening, so will pop back then.
