Just got a letter this morning from DLA.

I appealed for dd,s low rate award back in september and we can have high rate backdated to july 05 to july 07.

She doesnt qualify for mobility as she,s only 20months old.

We are going to use the money to fund BIBIC for her as we are not getting anywhere with the hospital.

Feel really happy as if we are starting to get somewhere

Awwww, I love it when you open your eyes in the morning to find their face very close to yours, just looking at you.

im so pleased because we will be able to take her to Bibic now and buy her things to help her learn to walk.

Its really lovely when you get good news but a shame that you have to fight for what your child IS entitled to, im glad i took the advice i was given off MN and appealed.

Can anyone tell me what if anything you are entitled to if your child received high rate care, can we apply for a blue badge even though she doesnt qualify for mobility and would i be able to ask for direct payments?

Congratulations Jenk

My ds gets high rate care component and as far as I'm aware he's not entitled to anything else, apart from yourself getting carers allowance.

butty · 08/12/2005 10:06

Do you or your partner recieve child tax credits???

If you do, then you are entitled to higher rate component for disability so you need to inform them as they will backdate it to when dla have, you need to give them dd's reference number.

If you need any more info, then cat me!!!!!!

PS: if you have not recieved any disability componenets on the tax credits, you should get about £40.00 for each week backdated!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely phone the tax credits people if you are entitled to tax credits. Ds2 was awarded higher rate care in October. This was backdated to April (when I'd phoned for the forms). When I got the award letter I phoned the tax credits helpline. After the woman commented "My god! They take even longer than we do!" the top-up to the tax credits was also backdated to April.

butty · 08/12/2005 10:19

With regards to tax credits,

We get an extra £38.00 a week now for dylan being on middle rate DLA, which then goes up another £20.00 per week when we eventually get the higher rate!!!!!!!!

That is when they have made their decision, but god knows when that will be!!!!!!

Sorry Jenk, I forgot about the tax credits, TBH I'm not even sure if I get that myself, I really must look into it.
