Strange question regarding potty!

DD (2.4) has CP (spastic diplegia) and is walking independently, albeit rather wobbly. One thing we have noticed, which has been picked up recently is that, when sitting, she leans over to the left. Paed feels it's due to the CP.

We're not actively potty training yet, although she does go on the potty every night before her bath and wees, and she has once brought me the potty in the day too and asked to do a wee. However, it's a bit precarious with her on a normal potty as she ends up leaning over to the left and beginning to tip.

Anyone know of a solution? A seat on the toilet would be no better as a) she couldn't manoeuvre herself onto it, and b) if she topples it's from further up!

We have an OT assessment for seating on Tuesday, might they be able to suggest anything? I get so jealous of my friends at times, who don't have this ridiculous type of thing to consider!

They are helpful, thanks. Needless to say the ones which look most ideal are priced in 3 figures (which seems a tad excessive for a potty!) but the first one looks good.

The steps to the toilet wouldn't work because she wouldn't be able to climb, turn around and sit/climb up backwards. But thanks anyway :)

I did think I wsa grasping in the dark

But I know how some children struggle on an ordinary potty anyway so was just thinking laterally

DS has this which we got a grant for as it was £245. He is too big for a normal potty chair but doesn't need the extra support. However it is really well made and sturdy. DS is 6 and the size of an 8 year old. It is coping very well and looks decent in his bedroom as it does not look clinical.

Could you get OT to provide a potty chair?

I have a potty chair you can have if your anywhere near me I'm in Herts.

Do social services still have a statutory duty to provide toileting and bathing aids?

DS was assessed by his NHS OT who then went to the social services OT to provide a commode chair. Hes had it a few years, so that is why I am no longer sure of the statutory duty.

Chuckyegg would you be able to bubblewrap it and send via courier? It's only £12, I'm sure op would happily pay that than the hundreds they cost.

This one is not expensive only £16 new from mothercare, so not really worth it.

We got a child's commode ( potty chair) from SS OT. It is height adjustable and grows with him and is fab for us as DS is tube fed and means it's easy for him to go to the loo in the night without a) having to carry the whole pump/stand downstairs, or b) having to disconnect then reconnect when he goes :)

Hi there yes you should be able to get a potty chair from ot and they do bigger ones as the child grows.
