keeps trying to take nappy off. help.

my 5 year old ds keeps trying to take his nappy off. ok in the private back garden, but not anywhere else. and not in the house.

been fighting with him all morning . have to physically restrain him from doing it. he is having major tantrums.

he doesnt speak so no way of knowing why.

just started this morning. help? any ideas or experience of this?

and on that note, am off to start another thread about clothing for this problem...

Put him in dungarees? Or buy some overly large Tshirts and sew poppers at the bottom similar to a baby vest?

My DS is in pants by day. That said he is only in them by day at school or outside. He is constantly taking them off at home and I am forever reminding him to put them on with a battle. He hates the feel of clothes and socks

Could it be a sign that now is the time to start toilet training?

Have you changed brands or size recently? Maybe they don't feel "right"

Has he got a tummy upset or UTI?

Is he smearing, playing with or eating the contents?

Plus, obviously, the clothing option to sort things out in the short term

Mine does the same, usually when he's freshly wet when the weather is warmer. I understand your frustration, since we've had no success at all in getting him to pee elsewhere!

When he went through the phase last year, we put him in dungarees, but it took him just a few weeks to learn to get them off.

My ds smears (and used to eat) his faeces. I use an all-in-one swimming costume, with the zip at the nape of his neck, under his clothes. it's close fitting so it goes underneath pretty much anything without being obvious and stops him 'digging'. It might irritate some children though if they're sensitive with clothing, but I've never any problems, and he's never attempted to take it off himself. It's a bit of a pain when it comes to changing nappies though, but at least it stops him rubbing his poo into his hair like the world's smelliest hair gel

the swimsuit is a great idea. thanks. i checked the fledglings website and they have a similar thing, but unfortunately they're not open till monday to order.

i have wondered about the tummy upset. he has not had a poo for 2 days and he normally goes every day. (well for the last few months anyway). if it lasts i will need to get the doctor to do a home visit on monday. (he goes nuts if we take him to the surgery)

and we were planning to start a toileting programme as soon as my other 2 children go back to school and preschool in a fortnight. but i'm sure this wont happen overnight, and in the meantime, well, today has just been one of the worst days ever.
