Lining things up starting late

Ds has started at age 6 doing what he calls art attacks! This involves lining random things up all the way across his room, the garden or grannys drive. They are not pictures like they do on art attack just lines of things.

He is going through Asd assessment. Is it worth mentioning these to the paediatrician? Has any one elses dc started the lining up things at an older age?

Mine stopped by 4. If he's calling it Art Attack, then despite how 'artistic' it is not that's what he's aiming for. If he does it a lot it may be an obsession, so worth mentioning in that respect. My DS3 used to line up 4 teletubby coloured items all the time. I wasn't sure if it was classic 'lining-up' or not, like you, but it was certainly odd. DS3 is not DXed, just quirky. DS2 (ASD) never lined things up, much too tidy for him!

Thanks Ellen. It isn't all day every day but at least once a day that he does is. I think I'll take some pictures of the "art" just to take along with me! Whether this is an obsession or not, he is starting to look more "aspergerish" in his interactions anyway. When you tell people now, they say "aaah" as if that explains everything!

Oh no, not the lines!!!
Puts the fear in me when I walk into a room and the line is there!
My son is now 5 and seems to be doing more & more of them, perhaps because he is trying harder to play by himself (and I guess lines is what he can do!!)
Definitely mention to the paed at the next appointment.

Yes Smurfling - the lines . I think that it is similar for DS. He has only just started playing by himself and the imagination just isn't there yet for anything other than lines.

I will mention it to the paed when the appt letter finally turns up!

DS2 (Aspergers) has never lined things up. Funny thing is though, all the specialists go on and on about it. When we were having him assessed, all of us including DS1 (NT) had to go to the hosp. DH and I were in one room and the DCs in another doing some observed play. When we went to collect the DCs, all the farm animals were lined up and categorised. The Paed commented on this and DS1 (NT) piped up proudly "yes, that was me!!"

my sympathies DS, did used to line up everything in rows, and was obsessed with the aspect of the programme art attack for a couple of years too when a bit older , he kept trying to make a pile of toys and half his wardrobe look like a dog or whatever , with the effect of looking like a pile of junk and nothing in particular , he has grown out of lining up toys and doesnt watch repts of art attack anymore thankfully.

I don't remember Dd3 lining things up when she was little, but she does it alot now. I had put it down to stress at the old school as she was lining her teddies up really late at nght to help her settle but now I am not sure.

She isn't stressed at all at the moment but we currently have a line of disabled play people across her bedroom, [her current obsession is disabilities] and a line of Go Go's on the side of the bath neither of which are allowed to be moved.

Oh well excuses me from cleaning those areas.

I currently have dominos and 10p pieces across the bedroom floor. I dared to move the puppet theatre which was part of the line to get in the room

Oh dear all is not peacefull in the needalife house, it seems that Dd2 15[should know better] has been changing the position of the GoGo's in a line in the bathroom.

Cue all hell breaks loose at pj time!!

The Gogo's have now been rehomed to the treasure box.

Guess I have to clean the bath now.

Yes please. Make mine a large one, DH has gorn out for a curry (again) and left me with a houseful of boys that I've been with all day. Do you feel sorry for me yet?

Hope you're feeling ok Ben10. I googled your DX last week and felt a little queasy about your extra rib.

Thanks Ellen. I'm feeling a bit queasy about the whole thing myself. My operation is not until 16 September so just waiting. It is so dull though as
everything is affected. It is my friends wedding today and I can't go to the reception as it will be too much..... That's my moaning done for the day :)
