Anyone else toilet training this summer holiday?

Training started Saturday with a ceremonial putting the last nappy in the bin and saying bye bye nappy and since then he has worn pant! We've even been to a friends house in training pants with a dog there and he used the toilet there. The only problem we are having in a reluctance to poo he did one on saturday and nothing since. Any suggestions to help DS.

I have got a visual step by step guide for him which does keep him on the toilet because he likes looking at it and reading it. It has helped with the turning round and flushing constantly.

This is our 4th attempt, but I really hope we do it this time for reception.

Anyone else training too maybe we could share our tips. :)

DS has ASD and is 4.9.

I seem to spend every summer toilet training!

Have made a chart for DS1 (7 1\2) who can wee in the loo and can poo in the loo, but not consistently or willingly. He's rewarded with cash in his lego fund. His targets are:
No wet pullups (50p per day)
Go to the loo without needing to be nagged (20p per day)
Tell us straight away if he poos in his pull up (20p)
Poo in the loo (50p)

He got £6.90, last week (helped by diarrhoea!), but the novelty is wearing off and his mood has been horrid and he's only managed 70p for the 1st 2 days of this week, even though he was promised a £1 bonus for beating last week's reward.

DS2 is 5 and has no interest at all. He does tell us when he's wet or dirty - often by stripping off, but refuses to use the loo at all. He won't even sit on it.

I think I can only work on one boy at a time without needing wine on a drip, though. I'll not be surprised if DS2 is actually clean and dry before DS1, since he has fewer hangups about the whole business.

I wish.
DS is 13 and every summer I think, this will be the year as he is showing some signs - will use the loo if taken, will sometimes tell us he needs changing (especially if we have just started eating or something) but generally just doesn't seem to care that he is wet, dirty or both.
But he has horrendous diarrhoea at the moment so no chance - hes wearing his heavy duty night time pads constantly as his pull ups or NHS sticky pads just leak.

I expect I will still be here when he is 18.......

I think we have just succeeded on our fourth attempt (including seven months consecutively last year when it just wasn't happening so i put dd back in pull ups).

DD's problem was that she would not release anything whilst sitting on the loo but last week after a few days in trainer pants she seemed to have that light bulb moment when it all clicked and she did a wee down the loo
I still have to work on poo but that is not so much of a problem in that she goes regulary in the evening roughly at the same time and has done for a couple of years so at least it's predictable and I know it will happen so I don't have any surprises during the day! (dd is 5.2)

DS1 has earned precisely nothing, today. I'm hoping tomorrow brings a more positive mood and a lot fewer "I don't cares"s :(

Oh dear, think I have been a bit too optimistic. We too are doing potty training this Summer and I kind of thought it would be okay. But reading these posts I am possibly being a bit nieve. DD is only 2.8 but has shown signs of being ready, so we started last week. But now just had the worst day today of accidents that now Im doubting if she will beable to do this. "Doesn't seem to care that he is wet, dirty or both" is exactly her !!
Has anyone got any positive stories of little ones with CP mastering this ???

DS is now amenable to wearing pants rather than pull-ups. That's as far as we've got but still an improvement.

We doing chocolate rewards here, money doesn't mean anything yet. Immediate chocolate is what's wanted. Quietly hopeful this time we had 3 other attempts that failed.

I think it's been helped hugely that the nappies supplied free to us are obviously very uncomfortable. Still having accidents but luckily things are drying fast on the line at the moment and back on DS.

I tried to take all stress out of his life and just loads of playing in the garden with water and trips to the swings and swimming pool and computer games. :)

Ds is 6 and seems to hold his wee and pooh really well and is finally uncomfortable when dirty and wet. He will sit on the toilet but holds on until he gets off. Today he sat on the toilet happily at different intervals but refused to even sit when he actually needed to go until he peed himself.

I was on a similar thread last year - it's taken ages but one year on DS (5.4, dx of ASD) is now more or less toilet-trained (though not dry at night, and he needs a lot of reminding). My advice would be to try and understand if there are any sensory issues involved which, even if they're not directly to do with the toileting, may interfere. With DS, there is an issue with fans/hand-dryers, for instance. I know of kids with the same dx where having their legs dangling in the void while sitting on the toilet, or flushing, or the texture of toilet paper, were an issue. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks sc13 DS hates hand-dryers which is why I could never have started while he was in nursery because they had hand-dryers. I've got a great seat with handles and a little step for his feet which is helping. Thanks for the advice.

DS1 is clean and dry during the day :o

We still have the checklist, though - there's a few flashpoints in the day like messing about instead of going to the toilet and flat out refusing first thing in the morning and last thing at night, but he's in pants all day and no accidents for a whole week!

We have tried but DS is not bothered. I was really hoping he would start school in September with some progress but its not working.

I got DS to sit on the toilet for the first time yesterday, but he just sits playing with his bits

He's done it all himself - and cost us a fortune in lego money in the process! :o

It's amazing that within a week of my post saying how he seemed ot have lost momentum, he'd reached a point where he realised he preferred the feeling of being without a pullup on and that he found it easier to be in control of his emissions when he was wearing pants. Within a few days he was actually more horrified at the thought of pooing in a nappy of any sort than he had ever been at the thought of pooing anywhere but a nappy.

The boy really knows his own mind!
