mobility badge for autistic son?

does anybody know if i would be able to get this? my autistic son can walk but runs off as we get out the car! just wondering if anybody had any info on this?

I have a badge for ds3 who has autism, we got it as he gets hrm, some local authorities will give one for autism but some don't, it seem a bit hit and miss. I do know that if you don't get hrm you will need to have a medical.

I would like one too.

I have to strap my son down in a bike trailor pram, strap and zip him in, if I want to go into down.
He's 4 and only has paper work from consultant saying probably, very likely, highly likely etc Autistic.
Waiting on DLA news.

its so hard atm ,my son is only a yr older than my daughter ,im using a double buggy but he's massive for his age! (just turned 3) he runs away and also refuses 2 walk sometimes,id love to be able to park in my eldest daughters school legally .lol it would make life a hell of alot easier

I got one when DD1 didn't have HRM (she does now). I argued that as her brain was fundamentally abnormal (evidenced on MRI), her learning disabilities and behavioural problems have a physical cause, which is no different than a person who has difficulty walking because, say, they have asthma. It isn't their legs or back that cause them the problem, it's their lungs. DD1 does have problems with walking (unsteady, trips and falls, etc.,) but can walk. But her brain prevents her from walking in a safe way.

As the DWP have acknowledged Autism and other ASC to be an 'organic' condition (ie. fundamental changes in the structure of the brain), I can't see why you couldn't use the same argument.

This is such a strange area, I get badges for the boys but know others with children with the same condition (Fragile x syndrome) who don't and have never had them. I do get HRM for both, I think this plays a part but it shouldn't really as DLA awards are not always a good indicator of the childs needs. E.g. many who should be getting HRC and Mob get middle care n low rate mob and the parents are too tired to fight this, so then they don't get a blue badge either. All wrong IMO

ds just been awarded lrm, sw has applied for mobility badge for us anyway. ds has sld, and waiting on dx for autism. sw typed out a supporting letter, explaining the risk factor. form only went of a few days ago.

as long as you get higher rate mobility its a no problem i think but other then that they may give you hard time before eventually giving you one

our council dont ask proof just that you state what disability your dc has even people who are not permanently disabled but have say had a hip or leg op can get a badge my council just ask for details and i told them he was registered disabled and in receipt of DLA

Without our Blue Badge..... We would never leave our home.
