First ever "Why?"

, been doing lots of work on emotions, recognising facial expressions, talking about X is feeling happy, X is feeling happy because Y happened. (Cos asking any question with a 'why'? always just gets the answer 'yes'. ) Today ds wanted to do something and I said no and he said but I want to! and I said no you can't and he said "why?"

thanks guys, oodles and going crazy he will be 5 in Nov. I think it's partly me having a running monolog (sp) about what is happening. We have been practicing recognising pictures of expressions, then discussing everyone around us. 'yes that little girl is sad' (sad was the only face he could read for ages). did lots of sign posting of our emotions and his, 'yes ds is sad, you are sad because you can't have another chocolate. Daddy is cross because you fiddled with the computer... etc etc. I am only guessing but it may also be that you use the same sign for why and because, so that may have helped to make the link possibly???

I think perhaps he is also starting to make more connections we also had a first example of an un prompted sorry yesterday, (ate some raspberries off the table at a friends house. I said if someone ate your raspberries you would feel.....? and he said 'sad' and then un prompted said sorry!)

thats a lovely post smile haha me thinks this time next year you will be like all mums moaning about the "why" isnt it wonderful such a simple thing but so overwhelmingly important and normal .
makes me feel hope for all of us and the sorry was harder than any other concept for my ds hes 11 and just started saying it voluntarily without prompts , things other parents of NT dcs find usual ordinary and just part of growing up and changing to us mean the world... you know maybe they are the unlucky parents and we are the lucky ones because we notice everything and take nothing for granted, our dcs are ALL special lets celebrate (((hugs)))
