DISCO done!

Just an update. Spent three hours last week doing the DISCO (Diagnostic Interview for Speech and Communication Disorders) with our new paed. Surprisingly, a very positive experience! It was good to go through all DS2's history and behaviour traits in a structured, organised way, rather than flitting about and constantly feeling I've forgotten something vital. Also, it made me realise just how much progress DS2 has made - hard to focus on sometimes when you don't stand back from it. It was quite emotional though - had to use her box of tissues when she was asking about when we noticed the changes in him and I had to describe what he was like before 16 months old (curious, social, communicative, always smiling) and how he gradually turned in on himself over the next 10 months.
We should get a firm diagnosis by the end of Jan, but I think it was clear we were both talking ASD, even though there were whole sections of the questionnaire that didn't seem to apply to him at all.Funny - a year ago autism was my worst nightmare - I couldn't even contemplate it - but now I'm calm about it most of the time. I'm even kind of hoping he does get an ASD diagnosis - it'll be so much easier to get him help. Does that sound awful? I just mean that he's got the traits, whatever the label. Am rambling - goodnight!
