my dd had been diagnosed with trates of dyslexia and dispraxia but i have been told the last six months she has come on by miles which has made me very proud. but now she seems to have taken a leap backwards because she has alot on she cant seem to concentrate on her school work. i have pointed it out to the school but they don't seem to take any notice, they just seen she has come on so far and that's that. i am worried that in two years time she is going to start senior school and am worried she is going to struggle.. maybe i am over reacting but i am worried she started wrinting backwards again the other day and the only way you would be able to read it is by putting it to a mirror, it was backwards and the letter were backwards to (clever talent really). her number are wrong to and she cant understand that part she write 18 as 80 and 80 as 18, 21 as 12 etc. i just want her to have a good start in life and dont know how i can help her as she gets cross a frustrated if i do stuff with her at home. anyone any ideas od some good games or ideas for me to make it fun for her to learn at home so she doesnt get so bad

Developmental Dyslexia is a genetic issue, about having problem with a man made communication system, the visual notation of speech, or having problems with the graphic symbols society chooses to use to represent the sounds of speech.
There are three cognitive subtypes of dyslexia: auditory, visual and attentional. So an auditory processing disorder (listening disability), a visual processing disorder, an attention disorder or any combination of them, can cause the dyslexic symptom
You will need to identify the underlying causes of her dyslexic symptom, as each underlying cause has different support needs.

I find it easier to write backwards... As you say, a talent, but not the most useful one. Is she a leftie too? I think that's part of the reason I do it - it just sometimes seems clearer for my brain to do things that way round. Leonardo da Vinci did it too.

do you have a SENCO teacher in school?
do you have a branch of 'Dyslexia ACtion' near you?

I am new to this - my 6 yo DD is dyslexic- we were told at the end of the last school year. Our SENCO teacher is very supportive and the school bring in a specialized teacher to work with her twice a week. She is also given tools to help her in class.

Dyslexia Action offer private tuition in small groups. It is expensive but there is funding available. They also have Educational Psychologists which can preform an assessment to see what specific problems your DD has although this is around £400. You can get a teacher assessment for c £50. Also an optician apparently can check to see if coloured overlays or text will help.
