Parent Partnership meeting @ school....

just had phone call from Parent Partnership, my silly phone hasnt been telling me ive got messages....ive got a meeting today at 3pm with them at school. I hope that this helps. Ive always had a bit of an issue with the SENCO at school.
shes deputy head, she does a great job, but when it comes to actually talking to her, she always come accross as dismissive, busy, somewhere she would rather/should be, and plain rude.
ive tried a few times to talk to her, but she just makes me feel like an over paranoid parent, making everything out to be worse than it is, and seing that i already doubt myself over EVERYTHING where DS is concerned, she simply does not help.

lets hope i get somewhere today....fingers crossed for me please :D

Who's going to run the meeting?

You want you or someone on your side to take minutes and then email them back to everyone afterwards..........

And you want you or someone on your side to 'run' the meeting......

thanks for the support guys...
i will write down what was said in the meeting now coz there were no "minutes" taken.
it was mainly me and the SENCO talking, but the lady from PP did chip in and ask very relevant things and sugest relevant things.
she even said at the end (once the senco had left) that she understood what i ment by saying she rushes and thought it was a little quick.
what has been agreed is that DS has moved from level 1c to 1b in all writing/numeracy/literacy, and since there has been improvement - albeit small - , it is still improvement.
He is currently getting a lot of help with a total of two x 1-2-1 sessions of reading and 3 group sessions (max 5 kids) in numeracy/literacy.
i did feel that the "but he hasnt been with this school since the start" comment that was made by the SENCO was a bit of a cop out, hes been there since feb 2010!!! blaming the "lack of foundations" on another school is a bit weak!! i did say this to the PP lady after, and she too agreed that wasnt right...hes been there for over a year now!

anyway, they said that the best plan was to wait till october/november when they do their next assesments of the kids, and i think this is roughly the IEP reveiw too. PP lady said that if there is little/no progress by then, they will look to getting an outreach team involved. this is the step before Ed Psych, becuase now the school have to pay for EP (about £400 apparently, so they are always reluctant to do that unless they think its REALY needed.)

i understand that doing something now so close to end of year would be a bit silly, and waiting till he has settled in the next class would give a better idea. and i know they are doing a lot for him, but i still feel a bit like its a case of "lets wait till he catches up" or "hes not THAT far behind, he doesnt need any more help"

feeling a little deflated, but also happy that there is something to work towards.
next Pead app in a couple of weeks....some days i just wish......:( xx

Is he in Y1 or Y2??????

If he's in Y1 his levels aren't bad.....

If he's in Y2 they are

Now, remember they have to not only make progress they have to make adequate progress, which means making the same progress as his peers.

1 sublevel a year in the infants is not adequate progress.

You can always apply for a statement yourself, and then they'll probably have to get an EP to see him.......

You can apply for a statement if he's not making adequate progress....

It's good that he's on so many interventions - if he's on lots of interventions and he's still not made adequate progress - that's when you qualify for a statement (in theory...)

Which outreach team do they want to bring in (ASD?)? Why can't they contact the outreach team now?

7:34 In deciding whether to make a statutory assessment, the critical question is whether there is convincing evidence that, despite the school, with the help of external specialists, taking relevant and purposeful action to meet the child?s learning difficulties, those difficulties remain or have not been remedied sufficiently and may require the LEA to determine the child?s special educational provision.

Aaaahhhhh - you need to get the outreach team in before you apply for a statement........

PP always take the mins for me if your very busy taking and listening id ask them to do it for you next time mine does it automatically and does quite a bit of talking for me too but not so much that i dont get my say as well id also if you feel as indigo say's hes not making adequate progress do apply for the statement yourself , thats what i did and the school backed me I aslo asked for them to contact the outreach team who came in twice a week helping /advising they hadnt even thought of that oh well we mums have to do their job for them you know, hope it all goes well anyway

thanks, he is in year 2. the SENCO said that hes not the only year 2 child on that level, and that "some children have started year 3 on that and have jumped up to 5 sublevels all at once, its like it just clicked".....ye i cant see my son doing that!!!
i have thought about the statment, but i think i want to wait till the next peads app first, and now after indigo's post, we will have to wait for the outreach team first now anyway. its an heres the link
the SENCO also said that the behaviour has calmed down now, and when i said it was in my opinion down to his teacher, she came back with saying things like every teacher would do the interventions like star charts etc.....but not every teacher just simply "gets" him like she has!!

i just feel like i have failed him enough by sending him to the crappy school i sent him to origionally, and i dont want to make it any worse....
suppose its just a waiting game now :(

Well don't buy that 1b at the end of Y2 is OK. It's not. It's really not.

In Y2 he should have made 3 sublevels of progress, so he has not made adequate progress

Ring PP back and say you want the outreach team involved now. And be a total PITA till school get them in.....

thanks indigo, will give them a call tomorrow and see what she thinks, not like its going to cost anything and if they do think EP needs to be involved it can be done as soon as he goes back, its so hard with things when people say "oh they are almost at the end of the year now"......"well they have only just gone back"......."they have had a week/2 weeks off for half term" ......"well its almost/just been christmas"......argh! how can we get continuity?
sorry will stop ranting now....felt ok before, shouldnt think about things lol

thats it once you start its hard to forget and relax isnt it have a wine or a cuppa , it will be ok you will sort it we have to be so tough on our dcs behalf it takes it out of you , i usually end up mulling it over at 3am and cant get back to sleep

i certainly have done that.....ive had no laptop sice saturday and my new one has litterally just arrived today......been stressy enough without not being online hahaha.
ive had a few bad nights now thinking about things, cant switch off, but i have told school i want the outreach team involved now rather than wait
but get this!! she made it out that she was sugesting that in the first place!!! WTF!!!! argh!! i had to walk out of the room at that point! stupid woman!

sounds very familiar they said that about outreach after i suggested it next time i spoke over phone and reminded them and then at the next multi agencies meeting they said words to the effect patting themselves on the back how good an idea the EP and senco had had

YEY senco has just pulled me this morning to sign the consent to get outreach into school!!!!!!
sorry, i know this isnt major but feels good to have something to look forward to again!! :D

Good first step, angel. My DS's ASD advisory teachers (like outreach) are fab. They are from the LA but feel like they are on my DS's side. Hope it's the same for you.
