Friday night chat, too tired...

Hi all. Just been on a damp school trip to Weston-Super-Mare, so a bit tired. DS2 (Y6) has been doing cycling proficiency this week but had to be brought back to school for 'endangering the others in his group!' Oooops! Grin

He had a wobble this week when I forgot it was Mufti day and he and his brother were the only ones in school uniform. DS3 was fine but DS2 had a complete strop. I didn't have time before work to get him changed, but his teacher found him an old rugby shirt in the PE cupboard. Didn't really help, he had a bad day. Sad What a bad mother!

bloody hell moose! what a week, how long before the MRI scan can be done?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 21:08

Oh no, moose. Please don't go googling. Hope it's not connected with your ME symptoms. ((((hugs)))) Glad you are actually feeling better!

Is your DH's boss that anal, wouldn't he realise it was an emergency?

I'm glad your DS1 was happy on the laptop, but how did they manage to find chips that weren't gluten free? Were they coated or something?

right, 'old fart' here off to bed. (work in the morning, and that's my excuse!) night all.

moosemama · 17/06/2011 21:21

I don't know sign. I have to see my GP next week. The eye consultant has written to them to say she wants me to see a neuro and have a scan - but the GP has to make the referral. I think there's a bit of a wait for MRIs around here - we have the mobile one that turns up on the back of a lorry. God I hate having MRIs, I'm claustrophobic.

Ellen, it could well be ME related - some studies have shown lesions in particular parts of the brain in a big percentage of ME patients - it really depends where the lesions are - they didn't tell me last time and I wasn't as forthright with the medical bods as I am these days. Last time they suspected the lesions were caused by lupus, then ruled it out, but didn't follow it up any further than that.

Yep, dh's boss is an absolute git. In fact the whole company is. One day off sick results in an HR grilling meeting, one slip up and that's your bonus gone etc and zero benefits. He's looking for another job, but is restricted by needing to be close to home because of my health and all the dcs appointments. Poor guy, he really hates it there. Sad

Some chips have a wheat based powder on them to stop them sticking together. Sure enough MIL had managed to find a weird brand that had it on. Hmm The only brand that acutally states gf on the packet is McCains, so I tend to stick with them if we buy frozen chips. We even sent his food with him so there were no slip ups, but she had to feed him bloody chips. Hmm

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 21:22

Night sign.

Anyone got some gin and tonic they could share?

OP posts:
moosemama · 17/06/2011 21:24

I had a bottle of tanqueray and some fever tree tonic you can have Ellen - I'm sticking with my healthy Pukka tea. [virtuous Moose emoticon] Grin

Actually I'm not at all virtuous, which is why when I weighed myself this week I sobbed for a full half hour afterwards. I really can't excuse myself any longer - I have to do something about my weight now before its too late. Sad

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 21:26

Ah, bet she thinks he's a poor deprived lad who could do with a bit of a treat at Granny's! Tell her home cooked ones made from real potatoes are the best, so long as you don't use the same oil to fry your fish fingers!

OP posts:
moosemama · 17/06/2011 21:26

That was meant to say 'I had a bottle of tanqueray and some fever tree tonic for my birthday' - see I'm so weak from lack of calories, I can't type. Grin

moosemama · 17/06/2011 21:27

I don't think she knows how to peel potatoes! Wink

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 21:31

It's never too late with your weight. I'm a serial yo-yo dieter, it does get harder but not impossible. (just impossible to keep it off.) Now you're feeling better the exercise will be easier, hopefully.

It's funny, since having to be a PITA parent for DS2, I'm much better at getting information out of professionals, I can even tell a hairdresser what I really want.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 21:33

Tanqueray and fever tree tonic sounds perfect, cheers.

I'm getting better. I can just about stand up to anyone for my dcs - not so good on doing it for myself yet though. I'm really bad for always putting myself last on the list.

In fact, I did a mind-map of myself this week (teaching myself first before trying it out on ds1) and discovered my life has become very one sided - everything about me relates to my dcs or dh, I have let all my own interests and hobbies go - twas a very one-sided map.

Still, it was a wake-up call and I've been mulling over what I can do to redress the balance a little. Not come up with anything as yet, but at least I'm aware and thinking about it now.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 22:02

Easy trap to fall into. You should try to organise some girly nights out with talk of DC banned, or just some 'you' time.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 17/06/2011 22:05

moose, sorry to hear that, what a crap week you've had, hope they get something sorted quickly for you.

for once I haven't got the gin out, not in the best of moods today, have already shouted at dh, think I'm going to give up on today and get some sleep, night all Smile

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 22:08

Night night ninja. Don't go to sleep on your arguement if you can help it. Have a better weekend.

OP posts:
moosemama · 17/06/2011 22:29

Hmm, don't really have any girlys to have a night with - other than my Mum. Both sisters live a looong way away and all my other friends are from Uni and are scattered across the country.

Me time would be good in theory, but I always end up not knowing what to do with myself - I really am a lost cause. Me time used to be dog training back before I had the dcs, but the two I have now aren't really up for it and another pup is out of the question.

Night Ninja - you've probably gone already though.

Triggles · 17/06/2011 22:32

I got a bit of "me" time today. Played the piano while DS3 grizzled at me from his highchair, eating his lunch (yep, captive audience). I don't think he was appreciative of the music. Grin Everyone's a critic. Hmm

moosemama · 17/06/2011 22:32

Harrumph! Messed that up didn't I.

My old girlie who we lost in December was a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Sad

moosemama · 17/06/2011 22:34

See now that's what I could do with Triggles, I nice sensible hobby that's therapeutic and good for the soul, rather than one that barks, whines, pees, poops and drops fur everywhere. Hmm Grin

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 17/06/2011 22:34

I'd suggest a hobby, but when do any of us have time for a hobby? Oh, I know, Mumsnet! Great hobby, but only virtually sociable. It'll have to do for now. Think I'm crashing, long day trip.

OP posts:
Triggles · 17/06/2011 22:36

pmsl moosemama - if it makes you feel any better, we're planning on getting a barking, peeing, pooping, dropping fur everywhere hobby in the autumn. Grin DH says "oh the boys will love taking care of it." Hmm yeh. sure. the boys are 1 and 4yo. It will be ME that takes care of it. (and I will train it to bite DH in the arse when he annoys me Grin and wee on HIS side of the bed )

Triggles · 17/06/2011 22:37

frankly, EllenJane - I'm impressed that you're functioning so well as it is after a day trip! I feel like I need a nap after a trip to the supermarket! LOL

moosemama · 17/06/2011 22:40

Oooo what are you going for pedigree or heinz 57?

Lol at the boys taking care of it - my two don't even notice we've got dogs! Dd does, she has already commandeered the lurcher as her very own dog. The fact that he's twice her height doesn't seem to phase her at all. Grin

I've trained my dogs to only nag dh for their dinner - and to start kicking their water bowl round the kitchen as soon as his bum hits the sofa! Grin

Triggles · 17/06/2011 22:42

oooooh I like the water bowl thing. Mind if I use that as well? Grin

And a beagle. It's the only kind we could agree on. LOL I don't like big dogs, he doesn't like small yappy dogs.

moosemama · 17/06/2011 22:49

Be my guest, its highly amusing to watch. Grin

Oh beagles are lovely dogs - I've never met one with a bad nature, lots that are completely deaf off the lead - in fact pretty much all that were deaf off the lead, but such sweethearts.

Dh and I both love big dogs. We were going to get a Leonberger before we decided to have dd and we'd both love a Wolfhound, but don't think we could deal with them dying at such a young age. I used to hate small dogs, but fell in love with terriers when I did heelwork to music - they are such amazing dogs to train - so full of spirit. None of the terriers I know yapp, its quite easy to teach them not to.

We won't be getting anymore dogs for a long time. Our belgian shepherd x border collie is 12 and is one of those dogs that is likely to be around till she's 18 years old and proper creaky and stinky. Smile Our lurcher boy is 6 in December and still thinks he's a pup. We have been gradually reducing the 'pack' number, but I reckon he won't cope without another dog in the house, having been one of 7 in his foster home, then three with us and now two - he's never been without a canine companion.
