He is v sensitive but does well academically. So would want a school that also caters for bright children. The main priority is that it a kind school with good pastoral care and some experience of children with AS. Does anyone know of a school that might be suitable?

Which area are you in specifically? I may be able to help if you are anywhere local to me. I live in the borough of Sutton.

Thanks Humbugholder. We will be moving, but will be in the Wimbledon area or nearby so could travel to Sutton area. I would be grateful for any suggestions. We are looking at independent or state.

Hiya sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

In Sutton the only independent ASD school I know is this one:

www.eaglehousegroup.co.uk/eh/our_schools/eagle_house_school_sutton

It has an excellent reputation. Before the LA invested in the current ASD base provisions attached to mainstream schools in the borough, this was where many ASD children in the borough were sent, with fees funded by the LA.

These days it's very difficult to get them to fund a place there, so the majority of kids there are there on a private basis. There are however some excellent bases at secondary schools within the borough, dependent in the levels of the child. There is Glenthorne High School in Sutton which has a small 5 child base attached to each year group for HFA children. Opening in Sept 2011 there will be a double base attached to Stanley Park High School in Carshalton, which will be for HFA/aspergers through to more severely ASD children.

These are the main provisions in Sutton, I will update if I think of more. As you probably know, aside from Eagle House (Independent), priority for these bases is usually given to children within the borough. Good luck in your search. x

Oh and try Googling Blossom House School and Hall School Wimbledon (has an ASD base-independent) for school closer to Wimbledon.
