Best Place to get a Trike for DS 4 with Low Tone/Hypermobility?

Winther do the ideal one we're after. Is there a shop in East Anglia where we can try before we buy? He is a titch so one for a smaller child would do. Thought I'd ask here as you know what's what. Really want to get him cycling. Any ideas?

We have tried a few with dd1 (AS, low tone, hypermobile) but the only thing she can peddal is this and they are too expensive for us. Dd1 is now too big for the one on e-bay.

I would advise ringing Tomcat trikes and talking to them. They make customised trikes for children with special needs - we have one for DS2 and its fab. They cost an arm and a leg, but we got a grant from Cerebra for a large proportion of the cost. The people at Tomcat are great - they have an established link with Cerebra and guide you through all the forms etc. We got ours a year ago - am hoping the recession hasn't altered the grants situation.

sphil, dont Cerebra only give grats to children with brain conditions? I'm not sure if the op's dc has a brain condition (just low tone and hypermobile). We tried through Cerebra but dd1 still has no dx for her low tone and hypermobile joints (we are in the process of getting a dx), i might have to try again in a few months, we had tomcat come out to the house to try out a trike and they are fab.

Also have a look on ebay. There are often trikes on there. type in special needs.

you are right Marne. They only give grants to children who have a brain injury or condition. Sorry boolifooli.

We were helped to fund our DS's trike last year by H.C.A.G.

The form was really easy to complete, I don't think they don't work with specific trike company's and it was just a matter of weeks to being informed we were receiving the funding.

Dd tried a Tomkat trike recently, they went out to her school to assess her. Amongst other things, she has hypermobility, low tone and heart problems (due to Marfan Syndrome) but I wasn't able to secure enough funding to cover the cost of it so we cannot get it. She is a tall 8 year old and the trike to suit her would cost over £1300.

I second that they do sometimes come up on Ebay if you can get some idea of what your child needs.
