ADOS this afternoon - feeling nervous!

Ds 3.9 has his long awaited ADOS appointment this afternoon. It's taken us more than a year to get this far and already the consensus of the professionals seems to be that he is autistic (as do I) why then am I so nervous about how DS does this afternoon? It will be such a relief to finally get a confirmed diagnosis, we already have a Statement in place and he is starting in a fab special school in September so nothing is really going to change - it's as though I'm afraid the test will go too well!
Anyone else know what I mean???

Sounds perfectly normal to me :)

If he 'fails' you'll feel terrible - and if he does really well, you'll feel even more terrible.

I am feeling the same a bit as we are about to have the MDA carried out but since we have started SIT, I have noticed him improving in many ways. Don't want to "pass" the MDA IYSWIM as I know in my heart that he has AS or HFA and want himt o be able to get the support going forward that I know that we will only get with an ASD dx in our LA.

it will be fine stop worryinghe wouldnt be at a ss if he didnt have the problems or the statement he will be as he always is himself i have to say yes on the day i though omg hes behaving better for this woman than he normally does but its his reactions and answers there looking at and im sure this is usual all kids autistic or not on first meeting will often be better for the new person if your dc has had any therapies im sre ben10 they will take that into consideration when you tell them

How did it go?

It went well in that he was his usual self (apart from no meltdowns) but his behaviour was typical for him! During the free play he was only interested in the balls, he would not engage with the assessor except for bubbles or the balloon play and he was hand leading me at snack time. He was nonplussed by the pretend birthday party and just wanted to jab a fork into the playdough birthday cake to make patterns !! He ignored the doll but did say nite nite when she put the blanket over it. The funniest thing was at the end when they brought out a remote controlled car - he wanted the controller and soon had the car going forward and backwards crashing into the assessor and totally showed no empathy or even recognition when she pretended to be hurt and cry! Then he wanted to see how the car worked and turned it on its side and pressed the controller making it spin around on its side - the consultant was laughing and said they had used the car for years and never had a child do that with the car!!!
