concerns that dd has dyspraxia spoke to school who alongside senco r going to help saw dr today did some tests and showed her checklist they are not going to refer

went to drs expected to be referred as we feel she has dyspraxia school are being very supportive said going through dr would be quicker they r not referring
will stick with school then

any thoughts please???!!!

telsa You can get a private OT appointment if the wait is too long in your area.

I am new to this area as the GP has said 'dyspraxia' but we don't yet have an onward referral. But I can tell you that NHS Direct and other sites have information about it, and the diagnosis is somewhat based on context. If the child is significantly behind on certain milestones AND this is significantly affecting them at school or home, then they have dyspraxia. But if I understand correctly, that means that the same child on the same developmental timeline but with fewer expectations/demands made on them would not count as dyspraxic because it wouldn't be having a negative impact on their life.

waf2011 - that is interesting

well the school have concerns with dd1 as well!!
are being very helpful

things we have noticed -

loud shrill voice
very excitable
has tantrums alot
bad handwriting
struggles with bike
has trouble throwing and catching
hates loud noise
struggles getting dressed
fussy eater
gets tired very easily
always puts her shoes on the wrong feet

school say she is behind physically compared with the other children in her class
