Side effects of melatonin

DS was put on melatonin a couple of weeks ago and it appears to be working, he has gone to sleep at a sensible time more times than not. However, it was hoped that this would improve his concentration in school, so making a dx of ADHD more accurate if the concentration issues remained.

However, after talking to his teacher, she asked if anything different had happened with him over the last couple of weeks - it appears that since he has been sleeping properly he hasn't stopped talking at school . Argh, not what I was hoping for!!

IMO, it's not a side effect, as such. Ds1 became much more talkative and 'bright' and chatty when he started the melatonin. This was because he was no longer suffering from chronic long term sleep deprivation!

I agree with colditz within 10 days of starting melatonin ds' absences (probably autistic rather than epileptic - we're still waiting for EEG results) completely stopped & he became totally 'with it' & so much more involved, attentive & super happy Grin it has been fabulous for us!
