Today I have been told ds1 will be assessed by an Ed Psych (dont know when but hopefully soon) at school.

Do any of you know what he/she will be testing/how they test?

TIA x

hello, my son had 2 observations completed by EP, they were done at home as son isnt in school (hes 6). She also did part of the WISC IV test (intelligence test) which was timing him for 2mins for each part of the test, matching patterns, pictures and a language test by asking him questions like "why do we have turn the lights off" "who would we call if that house over there was on fire". She reported back firstly that Aspergers, then PDA/ASD and paed confirmed ASD at a further assessment. Hope that helps. Someone else can fill you in fully on the WISC test, it was so fast and I didnt want to linger near him incase i put him off Smile

EP did various age and ability appropriate intelligence tests on my DS at his SA, age 5, which gave him a classic ASD 'spiky' profile of strengths and weaknesses. He found them fun, but would get some wrong on purpose because that's his sense of humour! She had to abandon some because he was obviously choosing the most wrong answer first! Little bugger! Grin He had a very high naming vocabulary (of concrete nouns, like lighthouse and stethoscope) but his use of language was poor. That kind of thing.

HI there
It depends on whether the EP comes from the LA or you have hired privately (the one we hired privately did a more comprehensive range of tests) and it depends on the basis for the recomendation for the assessment, ie is there a theory that your child is on autistic spectrum, might have ADHD or might have dyslexia etc? There are different tests and questionnaires for each, though some overlap. The EP will tailor the assessment - which tests they do - depending on what they're trying to tease out. The best book I've found on the topic is "Straight Talk about Psychological Testing for Kids" by Dr's Braaten and Felopulos.
