Got this email from I CAN today. Could be of interest to some of you.
We are very pleased to be able to invite you to join us at one of four free parent forums in early 2006, to be held at our schools in Surrey and Nottinghamshire. These are pilot information sharing events for parents of children with a communication disability, funded by the Parenting Fund.
Parent forums will give you the opportunity to investigate and build knowledge, skills and confidence to support your children's communication, social development and inclusion at school, in the community and at home.
You will have the opportunity to learn from I CAN's specialist staff through group sessions and workshops and to share your experiences informally with other parents in a supported environment. Forums will be run on:
21 January & 25 February 2006 : Meath School, Ottershaw, Surrey
For parents of primary age children.
11 February & 4 March 2006 : Dawn House School, Rainworth Notts
For parents of secondary age children.
Parent forums are intended also to provide you with information on the wider educational environment and how to support communication development as well as practical ways of managing behaviour, communicating, supporting social skills, language and literacy and transitions.
I do hope that you will be able to join us for one of these pilot events and play a valuable part in I CAN's development of wider support to parents of children with a communication disability.
A draft programme, booking form and map are attached.
Yours sincerely,
David Foley
