Totally unexpected, but so relieved - last time we saw the cardiologist he talked about it taking several years, so I'm not sure who was more stunned, me or her lovely Doctor.

She's now been fully discharged Smile

That's wonderful news. You must be so relieved!!
(Remind me, your DD has Down's? That must be a really big deal if heart issues have fixed themselves!)

Yes, DD has Down's, so hopefully now her heart is fixed we'll start to see some improvements in her development.

What wonderful news Smile

devientenigma · 19/05/2011 18:34

not to sound negative but are you sure they have discharged her totally?? I was always under the impression that they kept an eye regardless.
Really pleased you both don't have to go through any nasty lengthy surgeries though.

P.S my son has DS as well as a heart condition x

Wonderful news :) I can imagine how you must be feeling as my DD was born with 2 holes and a narrowed valve all of which had rectified themselves by the time she was 6 months old. I went to that appointment convinced that she would need heart surgery as she has had several surgeries for other issues (imperforate anus) and couldn't quite believe it when her cardiologist said they had all rectified themselves!!!

He will see her again a year on from that appointment just as a precaution to check all is still OK.

Enjoy the good news!! :)

devientenigma · 19/05/2011 20:16

So that's right Rachel, they only follow up once as a precaution?? I'm sure there are few here who's children's hearts rectified themselves, though followed up every other year at least.

How lovely for you all!! Operations are def not pleasant for anyone, esp heart ones. Have a Wine

RachelHRD · 19/05/2011 22:19

I think that is what he said (was almost a year ago) - might well be different with other Dr's and situations - with my DD she was thankfully never ill with them and always coped well with surgery and GA's despite them. To be honest I would prefer that she is still checked regularly and will discuss that at her check up in August.

The Dr's still err on the side of caution with her with cardiac history in terms of General anaesthetics and she has had several bouts of bronchiolitis over the winter and we have been sent up to the children's ward each time to be on the safe side.

devientenigma · 20/05/2011 08:08

I'm glad to hear dd has done so well Rachel. Really pleased for you and proudmum. I really wish my ds didn't need another heart surgery. As sneezecake says they are horrible and I'm really pleased you both, parents and children, don't need any more. Smile

RachelHRD · 20/05/2011 12:10

Sorry to hear your DS needs another heart surgery devientenigma. My DD has had 6 surgeries so far for her bowel issues and is due another major one soon so I know how hard it is - heart surgery must be even more stressful.

What always amazes me is how well our little ones cope with all of this - we are the ones who find it hardest I think. Hope your DS is doing well.
