First adult panel to sort out direct payments and respite care.
Verdict -nothing ,no hours no respite.
I was told that adult services had to match childrens, was this a lie?
Social worker has to put a new package together for 2 weeks time and try again .
I really do think if you have 17 year old who you everything for, is it really too
much to keep 7 hours a week payments and 24nights a year respite.

I realise I'm luckly to have had these for a whole 18 months

Is it any wonder that parents put there children/young adults in care, or top them selves.
I'll wait and see what happens in 2 weeks time, and then if things don't improve
into battle we will go ,again.
Wouldn't life be dull without an SN child.

i have been fighting for respite for the past 10yrs and get nothing my dd is 17 and not been in school/college for 3yrs, i look after her 24/7. i had to fight for carers assessment to be done.....i asked what the outcome was only to be told we just put it on file it doesn't entitle you to any help,it's only for filing purposes.

Cameron is the same as any politician doesn't give a crap we had no respite for 16 and a half years when we got 3 days due to DS beating the crap out of me and having to get the police out to calm him down, but we only got that when we said once more and it was residential/supported living placement for him.

Adult services are different to children's and the criteria for receiving help may be different and in many adults social care depts, you have to have 'critical needs' to get help. I have not heard of adult services matching children's services respite either - they have their own rules and different respite services.

We will be offered a feeble respite package when DS is 18 so we have to plan for residential care - if it still exists by then. I have been told we will need to start eviction proceedings against him in order for housing to be identified for him. He has very severe learning disabilities and needs all cares.

Have you looked into Personalised Budgets? This is the way it is going - you get money and - theoretically - chose services your child would like to access. I am afraid you can't rely on professionals to inform you: You have to get armed with information. Budgets are being slashed all over the place, as if life isn't hard enough.

Try organisations like MENCAP, and the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities and be prepared for a fight. You might just win if you take it right to the edge and spell out that you will collapse if you are not helped.

i think youve got that a bit wrong borderlass hes worse than other politicians what a hypocrite and we thought in the area of disability at least we could trust him to understand, but i guess he could afford private healthcare and nurses and therapies , and then he goes on to tell us how to suck eggs "you have to fight for help and your rights" thanks for that David doh , having said all that it does worry me increasingly as the cross over from child to adult services is so grey and tbh almost non existant what will it be like in 6 years when i need it for DS scary stuff , i really feel for you ethel1

DC is a fraud.
He used his own experience of the NHS and his son's disabilities to gain the trust of those of us with disabled or SN children. He used language to persuade us that our children would be cared for / looked after.
He is a liar.
He didn't get my vote as I would rather stick pins in my eyes, but I still believed that children's services would be safe in his hands should he win. But he lied and the the hatred I feel for him is frightening.
