Hi,
I have launched an appeal against my ds's statement. The LA has agreed that he can go to an ASD unit in September. However, the SALT from the unit has assessed my ds at his ms school and said that based on his profile, he will probably not get any 1 to 1 with her but she would assess his work and make recommendations via the TA. Apparently only those they think would benefit will get the 1 to 1 sessions. She met my ds for a couple of hours. I accept that she probably talked to all the professionals concerned etc but I feel she has already written him off. She also said that in a couple of years, he could be transferred to a MLD school.
My private SALT has recommended 2 direct weekly 1 :1 or paired sessions etc.
My SALT report has been submitted as evidence but the LA has not submitted theirs.
The latest Working Document shows that they have ignored all the recommendations made by my SALT.
Question: Am I being unreasonable to think that he would improve with more 1 to 1? I know quite a few people on this board who were told that their children's IQ was so low etc and yet with the right intervention they improved. (I think PipinJo's thread from LF to HFA)
My ds could read 25 words at the last annual review (June 2010) but with advice gleaned from this thread, we have increased it to at least 500 and he is reading Level 2 of ORT books. Again, with advice from the board, he can now add and we are slowly working on other things. I just don't want them to write him off!
