The Guardian are asking for questions to put forward to Sarah Teather next week about the SEN Green Paper. You have to register on their website to comment, I thought some of us might want to add questions too.

Questions for Sarah Teather

Gosh, this is a great opportunity to get questions put straight to the Disablities Minister, and she HAS to answer as it's all in the paper.

Would any ABAers on here consider posting a question (as I'm going to, but just one person saying it isn't enough ) like:

"Would the Minister consider setting up a working party to review the effectiveness of our autism education in this country? Many of us have used a system called ABA, which has become the norm for autism in the US and Canada, and which has a lot of research to back it up. If it is found to be good for our kids, it wouldn't necessarily be expensive to retrain existing autism staff in our schools and units in a few ABA principles."

Sickof, one of the ways to go with this would be extension of the Treehouse ABA competencies project which I'm sure you know about! Essentially a course in which asssitants learn about basic principles. The people I know who are involved with trialling it elsewhere are very pleased. Importantly, it gives assistants a qualification/certificate.

Yes that wd work well. But none of the la bods round here wd touch aba unless an edict comes from on-high I also have a cherished little dream of the horrified looks on certain salt's faces round here one day, when a memo flops onto their desks saying that aba is now in favour. Will u post on sarah t site? X

I'm going to put in that question re ABA, as well as asking for reassurances re DLA for children.
