Hurrah!!Smile Whats ICA lou??

fio2 · 29/09/2003 21:31

how did that happen?

lou33 · 29/09/2003 21:45

Excellent. Don't forget you can apply for ICA if you receive medium rate dla as well, as long as you look after dd for 35 hours a week.

fio2 · 29/09/2003 21:55

how come my posts are showing up before yours lou? Or arent they is just my puter?

lou33 · 29/09/2003 21:59

dunno but it did it to me on the 80s thread too

lou33 · 29/09/2003 22:00

Invalid care allowance i think it stands for. If you receive dla at middle or higher rate you are able to claim for Ica. Think its about 35 pounds or maybe more a week.

Davros · 29/09/2003 22:39

I thought you could only get ICA if you earn under a certain level. If I'm not right or I've missed out for some years

fio2 · 29/09/2003 22:41

Davros I think its under 70 quid after childcare for the person whos claiming it. I dont/cant work so I claim it, dh is on good wages..if thats any helpSmile

lou33 · 29/09/2003 22:59

I don't know , just thought i would mention it just in case.

misdee · 29/09/2003 23:59

its now carers allowence. i claim for depentant children on mine (all very complicated due to other benefits.) it starts at around 44 pounds (i think) i get 64 as have two dependant children. u can earn (the carer, not the couple) upto 77 pounds per week as well as claiming CA. if u are income support u will also get top-ups on this of around 50 pounds. if u get child tax credit u may be entitled to more because of DLA. if u claim housing/council tax benefit let them know as u may be entitled to more help as well.
erm think thats it.
i get income support, ctc, dla and ca. also am entitled to full housing benefit, reduced council tax. DLA is a 'gateway' benefit to other benefits. it is a fantastic help as its easies the strain of caring for a disabled child(cost of hospital visits, special diets/clothing/searching for alturnative remedies etc.)
well done for successfully claiming.

great news eidsvold

Jimjams · 30/09/2003 13:45

Yeah Davros. There's two bits to ICA (or CA as it is now). I claim the first bit- 44 quid a week - I alos earn 50 quid a week on top of that. I did speak to them and they calculate the earning monthly, which means that if I want to do an extra shift I can earn 50 quid one week, 100 next then 50 the week after etc withough that 100 affecting the CA. The other bit of CA is for families on low incomes - we don't get that. DH's earning were not taken into account when calculatng my CA.

unfortunately at the moment until we head off back to Australia I back teaching full time so I think that makes me ineligible for the carers allowance.
