My son's speech thyrapist thinks my son is dyspractic. Any ideas wher eis get good information about this and does anyone have a child with DS with this. More problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hiya jules, sorry no experience with dyspraxia as far as I know, but just wanted to say hello and bump your thread. How old is your ds?
My dd with DS is 4 years old.
I know what you mean re. yet more problems, dd has moderate hearing loss which is such a pain, as if learning to talk wasn't difficult enough for her as it is.
Anyway, I hope you find some more info, it seems to be quite a common problem so hopefully you will be able to hear of other people's experiences.

My son is 4 and has a lot of dyspraxic type symptons as well as speech and language problems.

Amanda Kirby who runs the Dyscovery Centre has written a good book called "Dyspraxia the hidden handicap". There is another book by Madeleine Portwood - I forget the exact title. HTH.

Thanks for the bump geekgrrl.My son is nearly 11years and we have only just had this suggested to us . I have always thought there was more to him not talking than just having DS as he is very vocal and sings along to all his music.Have been on the above sites (thanks saker) and they look promising. Will be getting info and a book or two from the sites. Where are you based geekgrrl? I am in Luton . Are the sercices you get for your little on good i know it does vary between counties. hiya jules, I'm near Harrogate. I'm very happy with the provision my dd is getting, the support from the LEA is very good (shocking I know! ), she gets plenty of speech therapy, the mainstream school she attends is doing far more than I'd ever expected... I can't complain at all.
My dd's speech is poor though, she only says a few words and they are quite hard to understand, at least she's good with Makaton and all the children and staff at her school are learning that.
She's had moderate hearing loss all her life though and the conventional hearing aids she had until August didn't make any difference for her. She's got a bone conduction aid on a headband now and can finally hear reasonably well. Next year she'll get an implant - a little screw that's put into the skull and onto which the hearing aid is clipped - and then she will be able to hear even better.
Does your ds attend a special or a mainstream school? I hope now that you might have yet another diagnosis you can work on it - at least you're not being fobbed off with it being just due to DS.
