Hello parents, I am new to this firum but just wondered if anybody knows how much it would cost to get a statement for my step-son? He currently has a statement in wales but will be moving in with us in a couple of weeks so we need to hurry a statement through in somerset so that we can get him into a special school for dyslexia.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

statements are free and you should ring your local LEA and ask about transferring his statement across to your school.

This can take a long time though as the LEA may insist he is reassessed which can take up to 8 weeks and then you may end up having to fight for a special placement if they think his needs can be met in mainstream. no guarentees im afraid and no such thing as a rushed statement!

also in my experience dyslexia is something that can be supported in mainstream school. do you know of a specialist school for dyslexia in your area??????? does he have any other diagnosis??????

Hi there he is statemented as Dyslexic with emotional and behavioural diffs. I have started the ball rolling down here now and they have said they can just transfer the statement! They are having a case conference on Tuesday regarding the appropriate school. I believe they will put him in mainstream with support. Hopefully he'll be OK but if not I guess I'll have to fight for the specialist school!

Thanks for your help :)
