Ds age 9 vehemently refusing to go to school today, 1st day back. Went berserk, taxi wouldn't take him. He has been saying he is unwell but I think he is just tired and out of routine. He seems fine now the pressure to get to school is off him but should I let him off the rest of the day or take him in? Don't want to get into habit of rewarding wild behaviour with a day off but then don't want to distress him. WWYD?

Tell him you will take him in after lunch?

Personally I wouldn't send him but would be looking into the reasons why he is refusing as there must be a reason. I occasionally keep ds at home when it's obvious to me that he wouldn't cope with school that day.Ds doesn't refuse because he is over compliant but I think the stress of complying against what he wants is just as damaging tbh.

I do keep suggesting I'll take him later and he kicks off again

I think I'll probably let him take the day off today, if he is this distressed which is unusual something must be going on. We just got back from holiday late last night so could just be tired. I think I'll spend the day preparing him psychologically for school tomorrow. Thanks for replies.
