A long time ago I was a dyslexic child doing GCSEs and A levels, with out the help I had from tutors ( 3 different ones each for a term or less at different stages) I do not think I would have got the quite decent results I did get. I t was tutoring that taught me to precise , HOW to tackle comprehension. HOW to plan essays, How to use my time best in the exam room.
Mid GCSE work I went on a study weekend for dyslexic students and that was VERY useful, learnt lots of useful exam techniques there. Also did a term with a dyslexia tutor one hour a week. A levels I had tutoring from an English specialist ( for about 9 weeks 3 hours a week) rather than a dyslexia specialist, thanks to a road accident and our LEAs home and hospital tuition service. Was pants for my Chemistry A , which I subsequently dropped, but fab for English and Geography.
