Question on NHS services for ASD in Birmingham?

Hello

My DS was dx ASD 6 mths ago in Singapore, he is now 2.8yrs old. Because of ASD, we are considering returning to B'ham, West Mids. (where my family lives), so DS can get the professional help and therapies he needs. As all services in Singapore are private, we are wondering if returning would make sense for us.

My question is can someone tell me what type if services the NHS will provide and how long does it take to get it? Is there a long wait for the therapies to start, how long is the procedure to get funding and what type of therapy would he get? Is it OT, speech, behavioural? Are we talking of around 1hour a week of each therapy or could there be more? Is it one on one? or does he get allocated to an early intervention school? Sorry to so many questions as I have no idea what the policy of SN for the UK are.

What is the price range for private therapies?

If someone from B'ham who can tell me what they had to go through to get services for their kids, that would be great appreciated!

Many thanks!

hi Leonie

Thanks so much for your reply. It's very helpful, although disappointing to hear. We live in Edgbaston area, not sure where that falls under. Well, lots to think about.

Do you know how much SALT & OTs charges privately? Are they easy to hire?

cheers
